Personal lines v. commercial lines

Not only can insurance be sorted by specific lines of coverage such as life and property, but it can also be classed into two broad categories: personal lines and commercials lines. Let's take a brief look at these two lines.

Personal lines
The category of personal lines of insurance is designed to protect individuals for loss to their own personal property.

There are several types of personal lines insurance contracts including the following:
  • Dwelling Fire
  • Homeowners
  • Tenants Homeowners
  • Condominium Home
  • Personal Auto
  • Recreational Vehicles
  • Personal Umbrella
  • Personal Floaters
  • Earthquake
  • Flood

    Commercial lines
    The category of commercial lines of insurance deals with property owned by businesses and liability exposures unique to a business including such coverages as:
  • Commercial Property
  • Commercial Liability
  • Crime
  • Inland Marine
  • Boiler & Machinery
  • Business Auto & Garage
  • Flood
  • Difference In Conditions (DIC)
  • Workers Compensation
  • Professional Liability
  • International Insurance
  • Specialty Lines
