Some final thoughts We've laid a large amount of emphasis on film productions, but these are not the only kinds of entertainment projects that need insuring. Though there are certainly a number of similarities between the different times of media and live productions, you should be mindful of the particular risks and coverage needs of a given production. For example, perhaps a live project that travels around the world to perform might need to address issues of jurisdiction in a way that a film shot on a studio lot does not. But no matter what type of entertainment production it is, you can be certain that there are risks involved that would do well to be covered by insurance. Take the shooting of a Don Quixote film in Spain a few years ago. At the time, it was the biggest budget European film in history. A few days into production, flash floods swept through their shooting locale and washed away the production equipment. Was the production insured? Yes, but not with the correct coverage. The production was brought to an abrupt halt. |
